Now we know that this website is a ‘pure cuban’ vehicle, telling you all about what’s hot and not in the worlds of cuban salsa, but on receipt of some good value tickets, we recently went to see Tanguera…. and had to write up something about it.
Tanguera, has been called “the new tango sensation from Argentina. the most provocative and sensual spectacle since the birth of the tango” and that’s actually not as an exageerated claim as you would think! Celebrated after its premiere in Buenos Aires with a sensational running time of 18th months, this show completely captured our atention, alongside an enthusiastic audiences all over the world. In the award-winning choreography of the famous tango star Mora Godoy, the 30-strong dance ensemble tells no only of the historical development of tango, from its origins to its heyday as the most erotic of all Latin American arts of seduction, but above all, a touching love story.
“La Boca”, as the once ill-famed port area of Buenos Aires was known, with its many cafes and Brothels was, at the turn of the century, one of those fateful places where hundreds of thousands pf homeless immigrants, poverty stricken gauchos, rampant sailors and crooks of all descriptions eked out an existence. The underworld was law, and love was something you paid for.
“El abrazo”, the embrace, was an attempt to still longing for the lost tenderness and men and women surrendered to the rhythm of a new erotically charged and stormy dance, the tango. To the strains of the bandoneon the tightly entwined couple spun over clandestine courtyards and the forbidden dance floors of notorious cabarets and bars.
We have to recommend this to you all – it’s an experience right out of Buenos Aires – here in London, guaranteed to make you want to stand up and cheer ‘Bravisimo!’
