Sierra Maestra the ambassadors of Cuban son, the backbone of all Cuban music, combining Spanish and African influences will be playing at Ronnie Scotts Jazz Club, London, Sunday 25th July 2010.
They are returning to London after their last successful concert in March where they presented their new album ‘Sonando ya’
For 30 years, Sierra Maestra have been the torchbearers of Cuba’s son style and tonight they’ll be gracing the stage of Ronnie Scotts’ beautiful venue to play a special live set in celebration of the release of their new album ‘Sonando Ya’. Featuring trumpet, tres, guitar, bass, a battery of percussion and soul-stirring vocals, the 9-piece group dig deeply into the son tradition, whilst also highlighting their own original compositions. These are Cuban musicians of the highest pedigree (members of the group featured on the original Buena Vista Social Club recording) and this is a rare chance to catch them in an intimate space.
Sierra Maestra are a Cuban band started in 1976. They sought to revive 1920′s classic son, which came from the mountain range on the east of Cuba, after which the band was named.
Sierra Maestra were the first group (and remain the best) of the modern era to play in the old-style son line-up: tres, guitar, trumpet, bongo, guïro, maracas and four-part harmony vocals.
The Legendary Jazz club in the heart of London’s Soho which has played host to all the Jazz greats since opening in 1959 will presents Sierra Maestra live in Concert, this is another event not to be missed.
