Leandro Charanga – ‘The Reggaeton King’
Mar 8th, 2010 | By admin | Category: Teachers
When he arrived in the UK in 2007, Leandro Charanga was immediately crowned ‘The Reggaeton King’. 100% Cuban, he is one of the most charismatic performers and salsa teachers in the UK today. His style is unique and cutting-edge, and for this he became famous in Cuba where he is known as ‘Charanga’.
In Cuba, Leandro made his living as a professional dancer, performer and choreographer. His passion for dance began in childhood, and his dance training began when he was 8 years old. He graduated with distinction from 7 years of study with a leading Havana dance company which is renowned for it’s breadth of teaching and emphasis on the performance arts. He attained teaching qualifications after 2 more years of study and has taught and performed in all the Cuban dance forms; salsa, son, cha cha cha, rumba, afro and, of course, reggaeton.
Leandro’s warmth, sense of fun and enthusiasm for dance fills a room! From beginners’ level to advanced master classes, Leandro aims to help students grow their skills and as a result, their pleasure in dancing. And, his professional dance background means that he can incorporate many years of experience in dance steps, body movement and styling in every class, whatever the level.
This positive energy has made Leandro a firm favourite at salsa congresses and weekenders. He has just relocated to the Cambridge area and soon, he hopes to organise some weekly classes. 100% authentic Cubano – a little piece of ‘La Habana’, to brighten up our long winter evenings!
