Bamboleo in London 18th July – This Saturday (Not to Be Missed)

Jun 23rd, 2009 | By | Category: Events

BamboleoOnce again the London’s promoter of live latin events in the UK ¡Como No! presents Bamboleo (one of the pioneers of Timba).

The pianist, composer and arranger Lazaro Valdes leads this set of 14 artists. Lazaro studied at Habanero Alejandro Garcia Caturla Academy in the seventies, he has worked with artists of the caliber of Pachito Alonso, Bobby Carcasses, and Hector Tellez. Determined to start his own way in 1995, calls for the elite of Cuban musicians (many of them graduates of the Escuela Nacional de Artes in Havana), including the vocalists Mompie and Haila Vannia Borges.

In 1995, Lazaro decided to include musicians from some of the most prestigious schools of music and conservatories, into a group with a unique trademark in their looks, style and musical language. The results were explosive and Bamboleo became a socio-cultural phenomenon that included a new style in dance, fashion and language to the Cuban culture, expression of a new generation of Habaneros. Lazaro won a Grammy Award in 2001 and was nominated at the Latin Grammy Awards in 2005.

Bamboleo is a well-known band in Cuba, however it doesn’t have the same pull as Los Van Van, here in the UK. At the moment, few tickets have been sold, and unless the the numbers grow, we are discouraging other promoters to bring great bands to us; furthermore, we are risking another cancellation from this stunning band.

TimbaGeek.com would like to encourage all timba geeks to buy some tickets ASAP, tell your friends and other lovers of great cuban music. Lets go and have fun!!!!!

This presentation at HMV Forum, on July 18th, will be the first live performance coming directly from Cuba this year.
